"Reading"

My little Rachel girl cracks me up sometimes! Saturday I took Rachel to the library for the first time. We checked out 13 books and Rachel has been in heaven with all of these new books. As soon as we got home we sat down and she sat still and let us read every single one of those books to her, and then asked for, "More book!"
Lets just say we read lots and lots of books that day.
Well later in the day she picked up a book on her own and this is what I found her doing.

Isn't that the cutest thing ever? I thought it was so fun to hear her "reading" to herself. It also cracked me up about halfway through this video you can see her licking her finger to help her turn the page. She didn't learn that one from me. That is something that Jacob does. I think it is so cute to see the little things she notices and picks up on.

(Sorry the movie is sideways! I'm not sure how to fix that! Anytime I take a video on my phone and move in to the computer it always posts sideways and I'm not sure how to fix that. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried flipping it it Picasa but it doesn't stay flipped. Someone said to always film with the camera sideways, but that doesn't help me with the videos I've already taken.)

A Spankin'!

The last few days adjusting to being home again after our vacation have been a little difficult for me and my little Rachel girl. She came home with no interest in going potty on the potty, she threw tantrum after tantrum, she was super clingy and bawled if I walked out a room with out her, and she has been saying no more than ever. She makes me crazy and has made me cry more than once since we came home just because I've been so frustrated and clueless about what to do to help her. But I have to admit, it is really really hard to stay frustrated with her because she is quick to say sorry and she looks up at me with her big blue eyes and says, "Huc (Hug) Mommy? Huc?" She also tells me I'm pretty and that she loves me. How can I stay bugged when she looks at me with this cute smiley face?

Each day she has been improving with less accidents and tantrums each day, but it has been a difficult week and I am really looking forward to the weekend so Jacob can help me have more patience.

Something funny yesterday morning, we were telling Rachel it was time for breakfast and this is how our conversation went.
Mommy: "Rachel, do you want to go eat breakfast?"
Rachel: "NO!"
M: "Do you want to eat cheerios?
R: "NO!"
M: "Do you want eggs?"
R: "NO!"
M: "Do you want toast?"
R: "NO!"
M: "Do you want a spankin'?"
R:"Spankin? Spankin'!"

And she ran into the kitchen looking for a spankin'. Now for a little background, we have never spanked her so she has no idea what this is.

Later I was telling my sister about this on the phone, and Rachel hears me and starts begging for a spankin'. She pulled me into the kitchen and started tugging on the handle to the fridge saying over and over, "Spankin', mommy! Please, Spankin'?"
I opened the fridge and let her look for a spankin' but she didn't find one. I'm not sure what she thought she would find or what a spankin' is, but I thought it was pretty funny!

Another funny/naughty thing she did yesterday. At lunch time Rachel threw part of her lunch on floor. (That wasn't the funny part.) I got her out of the high chair and made her clean up the food she threw down. She was really good about picking up every single piece that was on the ground without much coaxing and I was really impressed.  After she was done I asked her if she wanted to empty the bowl into the garbage or if she wanted me to do it. She said, "No, Pee Boo."  (Winnie the Pooh) She put the bowl on the table and buckled her Winnie the Pooh toy into her high chair and started to feed him the food she had thrown down. It made me laugh because when she started picking up the food she said, "Pee Boo." She often talks about Winnie the Pooh so I didn't think much of it, but that was why she picked the food up so well, because she had an ulterior motive.

And yes Winnie the Pooh is wearing a diaper in the above pictures. Don't ask.

When Rachel is tired and drinking her water or her milk, she likes to snuggle on my lap and pinch my neck or my arm. I have stopped snuggling her to sleep recently and so here she is pinching her own neck because mine wasn't within reach. Funny girl!

Rachel thinks anything bigger than a car is a bus and gets super excited when she sees one. Here is the "bus" she saw on our walk yesterday!

I love this funny little girl of mine, and even though she sometimes makes me crazy, I wouldn't trade being her mother for anything in the world, especially when she holds her arms out to me and says, "Huc!" Being her mom is so fun and fulfilling and I just love this little girl of mine so much. I know our lives are going to change big time when Kent gets here. I'm super excited for the new adventure about to begin, but I'm also a little sad that it won't just be me and Rachel anymore. We have so much fun together and I'm going to miss the one on one time we have had. We are just going to have to try our best to fit in as much fun as we can the next couple of months before Kent gets her and our new adventure begins.

Memorial Day Weekend

We had such a fun, crazy, busy, and happy weekend for Memorial Day this year. It was a really quick trip down to Southern Utah to see our family, and I was kicking myself all weekend because I forgot to bring my camera. I was really wanting to get pictures of Rachel with her Grandparents and with her cousins and Jacob and my siblings so that we could show them to her and she could remember them since we only get to see them occasionally, living so far away. In fact, all of these pictures (minus the first one) I stole from Jacob's sister Katie and from Jacob's dad from Face Book. (Thanks guys!)

Here is my little Rachel-girl all ready for the ride! She actually did really well considering how long we kept her strapped down in the car, about 9 1/2  hours each way!

One thing I thought was crazy was how nice the weather felt in Southern Utah. I spent most of my life there and always thought it was the hottest place on earth, but I hadn't spent much time in Arizona obviously. I never thought I would go to St. George to get out of the heat!

The first couple of days we spent with my family. We played at my sister LeAnn's house and I got to meet her sweet little baby, Rosie! We also rounded up all the kids and took them to the part one of the days which was really fun, and we had a funny incident happen while we were there. At the park there was a tire swing that the kids thought was a blast. They kept talking Jacob into spinning them around on it, and like the good uncle that he is, he did. And when they told him to spin them faster, he did. Well, it wasn't long before every kid that had been on the tire swing was feeling pretty sick. LeAnn, with the wisdom that comes with the experience of having 6 kids, had us wait around a while at the park (even though the kids were too sick to play) because she said as soon as we got them in the car someone would throw up. Well we waited around for the kids stomachs to settle a little and while we waited long enough for LeAnn's kids, we didn't wait quite long enough for Caralee's Sydney-girl apparently, because as we were getting into our cars, Caralee called me on the phone asking to use my wet wipes before we left. That's right, poor little Sydney girl lost her snacks as soon as they got into the car. I felt so bad that she had to be sick, but I just couldn't help laughing.

Friday we left to go spend some time with Jacob's family. We had no clue they were planning on spending Friday night up on Cedar Mountain, and if we had we totally would have packed differently. We packed clothes and flip-flops to spend time in Sunny St. George, and definitely weren't prepared to go spend time on the Chilly Cedar Mountain. Thankfully my sister LeAnn let us borrow a few things for Rachel so that she didn't have to freeze. Although I'm not sure Rachel would have cared. All she wanted was to be outside. She didn't care that it was cold or that the wind was blowing, or that it rained during the night and was muddy, or that there were little snow flurries the next day. She just wanted to be outside and she coaxed anyone she could into taking her out there. If I had brought shoes other than flip-flops I would have totally spent more time outside with her exploring on the mountain, but instead she had to convince everyone else to take her out.

Doesn't my sister-in-law, Katie, take the best pictures?  I especially had to snag these ones of the aspen leaves because Jacob absolutely loves seeing the sun shine on the aspen leaves and hearing the wind going through the aspens.

Rachel's Uncle Bill went frog hunting so that he could show the two older girls a frog. Rachel thought it was so fun to see!

I think Rachel's favorite part about going to the mountain, even more than the frog, or going outside, was her Uncle Josh. Every time she saw him she would point and say, "Josh!" She thought he was so fun to play with and he was such a good uncle and kept taking her outside to play even though I'm sure he didn't always want to.

I love how in the next two pictures Rachel is just happy looking at her Uncle Josh.

Now since we have been home, Rachel will pick up my phone and pretend she is talking to Josh.

While we were all together with the Bulloch's we decided to get a family picture. It is hard to get everyone together and this will be the last time for at least two years because Josh just got his mission call to Panama and leaves August 1st.

You can see from all of these pictures how thrilled Rachel was to be getting her picture taken. Right next to the place we were taking pictures was a park with swings, and Rachel spotted it on our way over, so the whole time we were taking pictures she kept saying and signing, "Swing!" She wanted to play on the swings so bad!

This trip was especially fun because we got to meet to new nieces on Jacob's side that we had seen before. Audrey and Lila were born last August but because of one thing or another we haven't been able to see them til now. It always amazes me with even babies that little how their personalities show through. They were both such sweet little girls, but so different from each other.

The four Bulloch grand kids, all girls. My little Kent is going to be outnumbered when we visit them next!

This family picture will be outdated for us in just a few months! I'm grateful that they snapped a few extra individual family pictures though. I just love my little family!

Isn't this Rachel girl so stinkin' cute!

In short it was a busy, crazy, fun weekend in which we didn't get to spend nearly enough time with either of our families, but I'm grateful for the time we did have. It was fun to get to see everyone that we hadn't seen for a long time.

Swings

Just today when I took Rachel to the park, she decided that she was big enough to swing on the big kid swings. She thinks she is so big! I'm not sure how I feel about my little girl growing up. It is so fun to see her learning and growing and trying new things but it is so crazy because I know she will never be that little baby that she used to be again. She is growing so fast. I love my sweet little girl.

Skirts

A few months ago I had cut some material out to make a skirt for Rachel, but because of this that and the other thing I never got around to it. I was looking in my sewing closet a couple of weeks ago and found the material but also saw that because of how much she has grown it wouldn't work to make the skirt I was originally planning on. I decided to pull out my sewing machine and do a little experiment and make a different skirt for my little girl and I think it turned out pretty cute in spite of the fact that I had no idea what I was doing and had no pattern.

I even had enough material to make a little matching skirt for her baby doll which she loved!

Getting her to sit still long enough for a decent picture was another matter. I love my funny wild little girl.
