Pop Tarts
So, let me just start by saying I NEVER buy Pop Tarts. Like Ever. Maybe once in a blue moon for a road trip or something like that, but that is it. Before Jacob left on his trip, I bought him some snacks to have while he traveled because I knew he would be traveling for over 24 hours to get there. I bought him some Pop Tarts as one of the snacks he could bring with him. Well, for some reason, the Pop Tarts ended up in the pantry instead of his snack bag and they were left home with us. Today I had my glucose test, you know the one you have to get while you are pregnant to make sure you don't have gestational diabetes. I had to be fasting for 4 hours prior so I decided to do it first thing in the morning (because going with out food while I'm pregnant just makes me sick). I told Rachel and Kent this morning that I was going to let them eat Pop Tarts for breakfast on the way to get my glucose test thinking that it would be a fun treat for them. Rachel told me, "Mom, I don't think we should have Pop Tarts because they really aren't very healthy, and they would make a mess in the car, and they take a long time to eat." That's right folks, my 3 year-old decided she didn't want to eat a Pop Tart for breakfast because it wasn't healthy and because it would make a mess in the car! I was shocked. I thought she would think it was a fun treat because we never have them, and they are unhealthy. I thought she would love it! Instead she chose to have toast and apples for breakfast. Kent likes bread better than toast so he had bread and apples. Sometimes I think there is a little adult in my 3 year-old's body. She sure makes me laugh!

Day 3
Has it really only been 3 days? It seems like it has been a week at least already!!
I love these cute messy kids!
Anyway, here are a few pictures from our day.
This was at Rachel's swim lessons. Kent was in a snit because he didn't get to go swimming too. You can't see his face in this picture but he's totally pouting. I feel bad that he's so sad about not swimming. :(
Rachel felt bad too. She kept trying to comfort him, but he kept pushing her off.
This picture cracks me up. Rachel just felt bad that Kent was sad.
Dinner tonight was spaghetti and meatballs. Super messy, but super fun!
Kent picked out his meatballs and then told me he wanted to eat the meatballs again.
Rachel ate her noodles one at a time. These are her favorite noodles but they take absolutely forever for her to eat them so we don't have them very often.
We got to FaceTime with Jacob a little today. He is with the family he is staying with and says they are very nice. He also says that it's normal there to eat dinner at 9:00 at night. That seems so crazy to me! They usually stay up late and wake up late there. I hope he has a good time and learns lots this month!

Day 1
Well, we survived our first day with Jacob gone. Kent kept hearing noises outside and kept thinking dad was home. He also asked if dad could read him books tonight but was fine when I told him I was going to do it. We didn't have any extra melt-downs (from any of us), and I fed the kids hot dogs for lunch and Raman noodles for dinner. I am missing that boy of mine, but if our days go even mostly as well as today went, then we will survive this month. Here are some pictures from our day:
Finger painting
Kent got a haircut
This is Rachel's version of "helping" me wake Kent up.
I'll be trying to post lots of extra pictures while Jacob is gone so he can feel like he doesn't miss out on too much. We love you Jakie!Friday, August 1, 2014
29 weeks
I thought that I was probably about due for another pregnancy picture.
I'm 29 weeks along and this baby is getting big!!! 15 inches long and 2 1/2 pounds. It's hard to think that my tummy is going to get bigger than this, but I remember that it does. Our little Elijah boy is soooo wiggly! The other morning, I was still sleeping and Jacob snuggled up to me and when I woke up he told me that Elijah had been being super wiggly and he thought it was fun to feel him. Rachel likes to feel him wiggle too.
Today is our last day with Jacob home. (Kinda home anyway, he is actually at work). He is going on an immersion trip to Morocco for a month. This week has been a hard one for me, knowing that really soon I'm going to have to do everything on my own. You don't quite realize how much you look forward to your spouse coming home at the end of the day until they don't. I remember having a hard time with that at first when Jacob was deployed. When he was deployed though I remember thinking countless times, "At least I'm not pregnant! This would be soooooo much harder if I were pregnant!" And now here I am, pregnant and facing a month separation. I can still count my blessings though because it's only a month. We can do anything for only a month. Also, I am counting my blessings because at least he will be home before Elijah is born. I had a really good friend (and have met others) whose husband was deployed at the same time as Jacob, and he missed the birth of their first daughter. He got to be present via Skype, but not really present. I can't imagine how sad I would feel if Jacob missed that! Jacob is missing Kent's birthday and I feel sad enough about that.
I'm worried about Kent with this separation. He doesn't understand why his daddy is going to be gone. Rachel is big enough that she understands and she remembers the last time he was gone. She will miss him, but she will be okay. Kent doesn't get it yet. I keep telling him that Daddy is going to go away for a long time and he keeps reassuring me that "Daddy come home, on the bus!" I'm hoping this will make the next separation easier in a few months.
I'm so grateful to my husband and all he is willing to do for our family. I'm going to miss my other half, my snuggle buddy, my friend. But it's only a month. We can do it.
